Dr. Castro is an attending physician in the largest pediatric critical care unit at the world’s largest pediatric hospital, Texas Children’s Hospital. He also holds a faculty position at Baylor College of Medicine where he has received multiple awards for educating medical professionals and other faculty. Dr. Castro has acted as a simulation instructor in the Texas Children’s Hospital Simulation Center, as well as an educator peer coach at Baylor College of Medicine for multiple years. He is an avid advocate of integrating crew resource management into both clinical practice and experiential learning approaches to medical education. Dr. Castro recently co-authored the book, “A Practical Guide to Crew Resource Management for Healthcare Teams”. His current research focuses on identifying factors to enrich and motivate clinician educators in addition to developing a prototype learning module for point-of-care ultrasound education for hemodynamic assessment. Dr. Castro’s educational research has been supported on several occasions by the Norton Rose Fulbright Faculty Excellence Award.
