Hospice and Palliative Medicine Board Review With Board-Focused Faculty
Remember, the American Board of Internal Medicine tests you on the entire breadth of your specialty, beyond what’s practical in your day-to-day. Let our knowledgeable faculty guide you through a comprehensive review that covers exactly what the Hospice & Palliative Medicine Exam Blueprint dictates.
FAQs – The Pass Machine Hospice & Palliative Medicine Board Review
Is The Pass Machine different from other board reviews?
Yes, in three main ways:
1. The Pass Machine board review is the most comprehensive option. More than just a Question Bank of practice questions, each course includes in-depth lectures in a familiar classroom setting presented by expert faculty. This means you get a topic-by-topic review of exactly what’s on the board exam in much greater detail than what you can get from QBank answer explanations.
2. Because the physician’s schedule is typically a hectic one, The Pass Machine is optimized for on-the-go review. Components such as the audio-only lecture option, iOS and Android app for mobile review, and offline access capability, and a fully illustrated board-mapped study guide make The Pass Machine review easy to incorporate at any point your daily routine.
3. The Triple Trust Guarantee not only gives you a full tuition refund if you don’t pass the exam the first time after taking the course, but it also gives you an extra 10% and free subscription renewal. This unprecedented guarantee serves to assure you of the confidence we have that The Pass Machine content is exceptional.
Who produces The Pass Machine Courses? Where do you get your faculty?
The Pass Machine board review courses are produced by American Physician Institute for Advanced Professional Studies, LLC (API). Do you provide board review for other medical specialties?
Yes! In fact, we provide preparation for dozens of other specialty and subspecialty board exams. Check out www.AmericanPhysician.com for the full list.
Is it likely that my employer will cover my tuition?
Because all The Pass Machine courses are approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™, it is likely that your tuition will be reimbursed. You may be surprised at how many residency and fellowship training programs, group practices, and other employers pay for or reimburse you for such Category 1 educational activities. After all, it’s in everyone’s best interests to have you board certified. It really pays to ask your training director, medical director, or administrator if you are eligible because some training programs and employers do pay for board exam training. And, if you work for the Federal Government, American Physician Institute is a certified business in the CCR database and can accept government checks and credit cards.
Does The Pass Machine offer any free board review resources?

Board Exam Results and the Triple Trust Guarantee
Is The Pass Machine Hospice & Palliative Medicine review pass-guaranteed?
Yes, all full courses are pass-guaranteed, and backed by our Triple Trust Guarantee. At any time, you can view the Triple Trust Guarantee Terms & Conditions.
What does the Triple Trust Guarantee cover?
If you purchase a course with a “Triple Trust Guarantee” and fail the board exam for which this course is designed, API will issue a 100% refund of your paid tuition*, plus an additional 10%, plus free subscription renewal. The guarantee expires in the event the exam for which this course is designed is no longer offered by the certifying board.
* Tuition is defined as the amount you paid for your base course, and does not include optional course add-ons, such as purchase of online access extensions, and/or the live course attendance option (where available). If any promotional items, such as gift cards, are included with your purchase, the value of that promotional item will be deducted from your tuition.
The Triple Trust Guarantee sounds too good to be true—is it for real?
Yes, it’s completely real. Rest assured, API has always honored its guarantees and always will. The Triple Trust Guarantee is API’s way of demonstrating that it’s just as invested in your success as you are. After all, if you fail your board exam, API will pay a penalty. API will refund your course tuition in full, provide you with a bonus, and provide you with free subscription renewal. The guarantee ensures API doesn’t get paid for effort, only for passing results.
Does the Triple Trust Guarantee cover non-tuition course options and upgrades?
No. Course options and upgrades are non-tuition related. Therefore, these fees are not included in any guarantee-related refund payment made under the terms of the Triple Trust Guarantee.
What should I do if I don’t pass my board exam?
First, it’s important to remember that a non-passing result is not necessarily a reflection on your abilities as a physician. The way the ABIM tests you is not the same as the many ways you’re “tested” as a practicing physician. Check out this reassuring video from Dr. Jack - What To Do If You Fail Your Board Exam https://www.thepassmachine.com//video-what-to-do-fail-your-board-exam/
More to the point, American Physician Institute can work with you to help you get over this professional hurdle. Give us a call!
I didn’t pass my board exam. How do I activate my course guarantee?
To activate your guarantee, you must notify American Physician of your failure to pass your board exam and submit a copy of your exam notification and scores. To be eligible for the refund portion of the guarantee you must submit your documents within 45 days of the date of your exam fail notification. To notify American Physician and submit your documents, go to your course dashboard, and click on the "Guarantee" tab. Complete the form and attach your exam notification and scores. You will receive an email confirmation of receipt, and someone will contact you shortly. Read What Your Colleagues Are Saying About The Pass Machine Hospice & Palliative Medicine Board Review
"This course was very instrumental in passing my palliative care board especially with my busy work schedule, I listened to all lectures and did half of the questions and I was able to comfortably pass."
Mervat Mourad, DO, Centereach, NY
"I found this course a very complete review that covered all of the topics in a comprehensive fashion. It prepared me to easily pass the exam. Lectures were well done and concise. Would highly recommend."
Jon Thomas, MD, Council Bluffs, IA
"This course by American Physician Institute had a good breadth of topics to allow concise review for the boards. Audio and Video were available for on the go. And everything offered with CME at a good value. Highly recommended if you are looking for an online review program."
Brian Black, DO, Greencastle, IN
"Overall excellent course! Great lectures and question database. Would definitely recommend."
Anedi Eme- Akwari, MD, Marietta, GA
"I passed! This course helped immensely. Some of my peers did not pass, unfortunately, none of them took this course. I really enjoyed the lectures and have learned so much that has helped me in my day-to-day hospice practice. I did really well on the exam and I KNOW this course had a big part in it. (I used this PASS course to study 10 years ago for my Hospice and Palliative Care Certification and I knew that this was the course I would use to study for my recertification. I am so glad that I did.)"
Kim Higgins, DO, Ft. Worth, TX
"An excellent board review program. The lectures were fantastic, relevant and interesting. Having access to an extensive amount of Board questions was very helpful to understand not only what information is important to know on the exam but also the faculty provide great clues and guidance on how to take the exam."
Christine Khandelwal, DO, Apex, NC
"This was an excellent course. I reviewed every question of both the original and the updated course. Though many seemed to be difficult, they were very close to the questions in the exam. I am surprised that the boards asked very complicated questions. The biggest challenge is time. You barely have time to read and answer the question. Using the timed tests was an excellent practice for the exam. Thank you!"
Gianfranco Valle, MD, Cincinnati, OH
"I used the API course to review for my recertification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. The lectures provided a great wealth of knowledge and were upto date and practical. I practice in a rural community so they were very helpful filling in the gaps of therapies and practices not routinely available in our area. The Board question sessions provided a great overview of the materials. I completed my exam quickly and confidently on exam day. I passed soundly!! Thanks API."
Lori Kuehne, MD, New Philadelphia, OH
"I passed the exam. What a relief. The course was super helpful in delineating the areas that we had to master for the exam. It condensed necessary information in such a way that you can cover extensive material in a reasonable time. Give yourself at least 6 months of preparation. The practice questions were also helpful. I recommend that everyone review the questions and study the explanations. The scores I got were incredibly close to my final score on the test. I also recommend using the timed tests, which helped me prepare for the pace of the exam.
The exam was very hard. 3 issues are relevant: (a)You have limited time to answer, especially when given a longer stem. (b) You usually can narrow it down to 2 choices. It is hard to guess what the examiners are hoping to hear from you. The pearls the experts provided where so on point to help with this. (c) know your drugs, their side effect and interactions! They are everywhere in the test.
I listened to the lectures over and over again when driving to work. Dr. Jack's email before the test was so helpful (support prior to exam). I took his recommendations at heart. Yes, I felt like I bombed it when I stepped out of the testing area and my brain was cooked. I just kept thinking I had covered all the necessary material and learned an awful lot in the process.
Thank you Dr. Jack and Pass Machine. The effort was all worth it and your help was invaluable in passing this exam!"
Gianfranco Valle, MD, Cincinnati, OH
"I found the The Pass Machine 10 years ago when I was trying to find a course to prepare for the hospice and palliative care certification. There was limited material around at that time. I found the course to be concise and very focused. It gave me a very good structure to follow. I learned a lot from it. I started using their courses for my family medicine recertification as well with good success. I just finished my palliative care recertification and did well. These courses are convenient and concise. I found the material on target and the speakers very interesting. I highly recommend their courses."
Marlene Starr, MD, St. Petersburg, FL
"I failed last year after reading the whole 9 UNIPAC books and having done the AHP FAST complete. That was a lot of time and effort that did not work.
I was recommended The Pass Machine by one of my colleagues in the group, and I only had 40 days left, so I watched the webinars and did only a third of the questions, and pass with 476 (passing was 376). This course has the right information you need to pass, nothing else.
Next I'm taking the Designation of Focused Practice in Hospital Medicine and getting their IM Review was no-brainer."
Cristian Fernandez Falcon, MD, San Antonio, TX
"I recently took and passed my HPM recertification. I found the course videos informative and easy to watch. I constantly did test questions on my cell phone app whenever I had 10 minutes down time. This course made getting prepared easy. I used it for my emergency medicine and internal medicine recertification previously and was equally happy with the results."
Warren Wisnoff, DO, Bakersfield, CA
"I recently took the Hospice and Palliative Care boards and passed with high marks due to the information and knowledge I gained by using American Physician Institute board exam preparation program. Specifically, the questions were very relevant to both expanding my overall knowledge with both clinical and administrative management of hospice and palliative care practice. The study program was very relevant to the board exam and I would not have passed without using API. I would highly recommend API for any board exam preparation."
Niraj Patel, MD, Henrico, VA
“It is my pleasure to let you know that I have passed my Boards. Thank you so much for your concise course and the profound sense of confidence you have given me. You have presented an unprecedented and simply amazing review of hospice and palliative care. This is the best, most focused, most useful teaching program not only for the boards but also for the practice that I have ever reviewed or attended. The clarity, simplicity and information are truly amazing. The course is very unique, focused and board-orientated. The diligence, profound knowledge in hospice and palliative care and conscientiousness makes it possible to review so much information in a few days. Anyone who can understand and memorize most of this review will certainly pass the Board.”
Gurdeep Kaur, MD, Novi, MI
“I am someone who had to pass to be able to grandfather in. I have plenty of hospice experience but really needed all the other extra formal stuff. I know for a fact that I wouldn't have passed the exam without The Pass Machine review. It was completely geared to the exam without any extra drivel, or somebody's ego making them talk about unnecessary stuff that would have been useless for the job at hand. I found you by accident on the net and bless the day I did! Thank you!”
Alina Lopo, MD, PhD, Tarzana, CA
“The course was very well-organized. I was amazed at how responsive the organizers were to our needs during the course. The speakers were excellent and the handouts for the lectures were extremely relevant and easy to follow. I truly feel that taking this course helped me prepare for and pass the Hospice and Palliative Care Boards.”
Keerti Sharma, MD, AGSF, West Orange, NJ
“I used The Pass Machine lectures for Hospice and Palliative Medicine exam and I passed it the first time! The review course is excellent and all the information is up-to-date. It was also convenient, as I took the course online!”
Bahija Saouf, MD, Goleta, CA
“The course was excellent and if it were not for the course, I would have not passed the board exams. Yes, I appeared for the ABIM Hospice and Palliative Med board and passed it the first time. I will recommend your course to everybody. Very helpful, organized, relevant and to the point!”
Sohail Khan, MD, FACO, Lynnhaven, FL
“Yes, I passed. This is a wonderful hospice and palliative medicine board review course. Very complete and to the point. Faculty is just perfect.”
Saqib Rashid, MD, Exeter, CA
“Great prep. I passed on the 1st attempt and only used your course to study.”
Nathan Boles, MD, Biloxi, MS
“This course absolutely helped me pass. The lectures were well organized, and I felt properly prepared for the content on the exam.”
Jennifer Cohen, MD, MMSc, West Chester, PA
“I used The Pass Machine prep course for the Hospice and Palliative Medicine board exam in 2012. I can honestly say that I had never taken a medical board exam 'prep' course, and have always done well on licensing exams on my own - but needed good study material to help prepare for this exam. I primarily viewed this as an investment in a syllabus to study, but was surprised by the quality and spectrum of the online lectures, which became a foundation for my board prep. I felt that the lecturers were from a broad background and were leaders in their respective fields within HPM. The lectures were brisk yet easy to follow and did not have any background 'fluff.' My time and money spent on The Pass Machine were extremely well spent and I would not hesitate to strongly encourage anyone attempting the Hospice and Palliative Medicine board exam to take this course. When I sat for the exam I felt prepared and was able to calmly work through the more difficult problems, as the practice test material from The Pass Machine was generally more difficult than the actual exam.”
Lauren Loftis, MD, Durango, CO
“I had very little exposure to hospice, but this course taught me all that is needed to pass the board! This course, I believe, will be particularly helpful to the vast majority of physicians who cannot grasp all material with a one-time hearing. I checked the website after the first day and as promised, material was uploaded on the website!”
Abulhasam Sayed, MD, Farmington Hills, MI
“Using The Pass Machine in preparing for the hospice boards was the best decision I could have made. It was very comprehensive and really helped focus on key points. I think the practice tests were what put my preparation on track. I felt using this review course helped me study and prepare more efficiently. I felt very confident going into the board exams- it made a huge difference for me. I will be using the course for my internal medicine boards in the future. Thank you.”
Kristin Griffin, MD, Ozark, MO
“By far the most convenient, goal-oriented, and focused review you can ever encounter. Not a single question on the test felt out of context or foreign. I recommend it without reservations. I am a busy practicing nephrologist and during my preparation for the test with The Pass Machine, I did not have to change my full schedule in the office, the dialysis center, or the hospital consults!”
Sergio Vega, MD, FASN, West Palm Beach, FL
“The American Physician Institute course was an integral part of my preparation and I am appreciative of the physician educators who participated in the course lectures. The intensive review course, from a clinical and practical standpoint, was part of the strategy for my successful completion of the Hospice and Palliative Care Boards.”
Holly Cranston, MD, Pittsburgh, KS
"Very intensive board focused course which enabled me to grasp all important topics and concepts through watching all lectures and I was able to reinforce what I learned through doing test questions provided with the course. I only did half of the questions which was roughly about 600 questions answering them and reading the explanations and on the actual test I felt familiar with most of the questions and I was confident I am going to pass my board. I highly recommend this course. It was really helpful given my busy work schedule!"
Mervat Mourad, DO, Centereach, NY
“This is my first time attending API board review. I was very impressed with the course. Most of the speakers are excellent, the staff is wonderful! Hopefully, I will pass the board of Hospice & Palliative Care medicine. If I pass the board, I’m considering taking the review course for my internal medicine & geriatric medicine recertification.”
Xiangrong Shao, MD, Baltimore, MD
“It was easy to pay attention and stay awake. I enjoyed the course in its entirety and regretted missing the first hour due to flight problems. However, the tape was available online that night and I felt as though I missed nothing. I am looking forward to the next two months of focused review as I study this material for my exam.”
Gary Spangler Jr., MD, League City, TX
“Excellent course, with the main objective of board preparation. Material was very much board-focused, in contrast to some of the other board review courses I attended. Would highly recommend for anyone working towards board certification in Hospice & Palliative Medicine.”
Sayyed T. Hussain, Tampa, FL
“I thoroughly enjoyed this course. Location was great, course was well-run & scheduled. I feel it has been an effective review/preparation for the HPM board test. The added benefit was the clinical/real-world information provided.”
T. Holmstra, MD, Camden, SC
“Thank you for achieving my goal. Your speakers are very dedicated to their careers and made Hospice and Palliative Medicine a privilege to be part of this specialty.”
Myrna Sanchez, MD, Malone, KY
“The Pass Machine approached the review material in a totally different way than any other review course I have ever been to. I owe a lot of my successful completion of the Palliative Care boards to The Pass Machine.”
Asim K. Jaffer, MD, Peoria, IL
“I enjoyed studying for the Palliative Care Boards with The Pass Machine. I was able to apply what I learned immediately to my daily patient care, and had the side benefit of crushing the boards.”
Anna. Abramson, MD, Mill Vally, CA
“The course was great. Not only did I pass and feel really comfortable with my knowledge during the test, I learned a great deal that I use in daily practice.”
Marion Cooper, MD, Mount Pleasant, SC
“I truly enjoyed this course. The speakers were great and effective. I will recommend the course to friends, as it has increased my confidence of passing.”
Akinwole Awujo, MD, Atlanta, GA
“It’s obvious the speakers put a lot of time & energy to develop their thoughts and notes. Learned a lot. An exceptional review. Cutting-edge treatment and new material will help my practice.”
Gary Lehman, MD, Orland, FL
“I have not taken a certification exam for decades. The structure of this course and the speakers have given me confidence and provided me with a nice road map to enhance my preparation for the exam.”
