Dr. Allen is a graduate of the University of Utah, BA Cum Laude in Chemistry. He attended George Washington University Medical School in Washington DC, graduating in 1977. He completed a residency in Family Medicine in 1980 at DeWitt Army Hospital, Fort Belvoir, Virginia and completed his Army Service at Fort Bragg, North Carolina from 1980-1984.
Dr. Allen has been in private practice in Coalville and Kamas, Utah from 1984 to the present. He completed construction and opening of a new clinic in each town in 2008. As a member of the Army Reserve, he was called into Active Duty for the first Desert Storm in 1990. He retired from the Army Medical Corps in 1997 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He has been active in State and National Medical Affairs. He is a past-president of The Utah Academy of Family Physicians and past Department Chairman of the Department of Family Practice at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center.
He continues to be active in Medical Education. Both clinics serve as rotation sites for Medical Students, Residents and PA students from across the country. Dr. Allen holds an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine in the Department of Family Medicine/Palliative Medicine at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He holds a similar position at the University of Utah.
He served 2 terms as Chairman of the Summit County Medical Foundation, the organization that initiated the effort to get a hospital built in Summit County. He currently holds staff privileges at Park City Medical Center, Primary Children’s Medical Center, University of Utah Hospital, Lone Peak Hospital, Timpanogas Regional Hospital, Ogden Regional Medical Center, Brigham City Community Hospital and Salt Lake Regional Medical Center.
He is Board Certified in Family Medicine and also in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Allen serves as Medical Director for the State of Utah for Encompass Hospice, as well as serving as the local Medical Director for the Encompass Heber City office. He served as the first Medical Staff President for the Park City Medical Center and served for 10 years as the Chief Medical Officer of Park City Medical Center.
