Dr. Shannon also created the Mayo Clinic Palliative Medicine Fellowship and is the ongoing Fellowship Director for the past 6 years. Dr. Steinhorn has been directing pediatric palliative programs for nearly 20 years, starting with assisting in creating and acting as the first medical director for the Essential Care Program, Pediatric Hospice. He has served on the medical advisory board of Almost Home Kids and is the advisor to the Northern Illinois Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition. Dr. Steinhorn serves on the Executive Committee and was a founding member of the American Academy of Pediatrics' Section on Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
