Dr. Berger's clinical and research interests include coronary-artery disease, peripheral-arterial disease geriatric cardiology, chronic cardiorenal comorbidity, and health informatics. He was a co-investigator for the Minnesota Heart Survey, is the principal investigator for an NIH-funded epidemiologic study of acute myocardial infarction in the elderly, and co-chairs "Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes" (KDIGO), a National Kidney Foundation committee that reviews and updates guidelines for treating heart disease in renal patients. Dr. Schaer's current research focuses on new interventional and drug therapies for patients with coronary and peripheral arterial disease. Dr. Schaer also supervises a large animal catheterization laboratory where new approaches are developed and tested.
